Peter Adams N.D.D., Cert R.A.S.
The Intensive Courses
Limited to eight students per day, the ongoing program is an intensive course of creative bonsai tuition, repeated three times a year in spring, summer and fall. Students are encouraged to work on the same pieces of material over the year or years, or a number of pieces may be alternated. This ensures continuity of contact, a key factor in rapid progress in bonsai and bonsai design. Work should be limited to two trees per day per student. This ensures that everyone gets equal attention.
Each student receives a black and white drawing of the future design of the tree and detailed help with the specific horticultural steps needed to make quick progress with the individual tree. Emphasis is placed on artistic design and how this dictates the shaping process. The steps taken are always in terms of what is acceptable to the tree, but always with the eye on the future image. Cost is $100.
The design programs are limited to eight students per day. They comprise a day of tuition, plus a graphics package including a personalized original color drawing of the future image of the tree – signed and stamped by Peter. These drawings are of framing quality and are widely collected.
They are generated from photographs taken at the time, or supplied by the student. Also included is ‘how-to’ text with black & white line drawings as well as a complete horticultural profile. This is comparable to a complete workshop on paper. The graphics package is mailed later. Cost is $150. Also available as an online service.
Lectures, Demonstrations and Critiques
Peter’s lecture and demonstration work is in much demand as are his critiques, based on his experience at art school, where only constructive and encouraging criticisms were employed. Cost is $300 part day or $450 whole day.
Personal one to one teaching makes for a very rewarding day and the chance to create some memorable trees. Cost is $550 for the day.
Private Collections and Maintenance
Peter is happy to consult and advise and carry out work on private collections. He can also maintain collections, giving them some extra
finish prior to exhibitions and so on. Cost is $450 whole day.
